Cresemba Information:
Cresemba is a drug that utilizes isavuconazonium sulfate, the prodrug of isavuconazole, an azole antifungal drug. It kills and prevents the spread of fungal infection of aspergillosis and mucormycosis. As with most antifungal medications, it is imperative that the type of fungus causing the infection in the patient is identified before prescribing drugs to provide an accurate prescription that will lead to an effective treatment.
Cresemba is most often taken by capsule. It is initially given in a loading dose every 8 hours for 48 hours. Administer the medicine thereafter once daily as a maintenance dose. Follow your doctor's dosing instructions exactly. Take capsules with or without food. Do not crush, chew, open, or dissolve the capsules, and be sure to swallow them whole.
Before taking Cresemba, tell your doctor if:
- You have liver disease
- You have a heart rhythm disorder
- You have a history of allergic reaction to antifungal medicine, including such medications as fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, posaconazole, or voriconazole
- You have allergies to food, medication, or other substances
- You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing

You may begin to experience diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, hot flashes, joint pain, anxiety, feeling restless, numbness or tingling, trouble concentrating, dry mouth, strange sense of taste, oral numbness, and fast or pounding heartbeats. You should not use Cresemba if you have a genetic heart rhythm disorder called Short QT Syndrome. Your doctor may recommend certain dietary restrictions or changes while you are on a regimen with Cresemba.
