This medicine is a viscosupplement used to treat the pain of osteoarthritis.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine is given as an injection into the knee joint at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. AN ADDITIONAL PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET is available with this medicine. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this information. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if it contains particles, is cloudy or discolored, or if the vial or syringe is cracked or damaged. DO NOT use disinfectants that contain ammonium salts to prepare the skin for injection because side effects may occur. THIS MEDICINE is usually given as a series if injections 1 week apart for a total of 3 to 5 injections, depending upon the particular product you are using. You may not experience relief until you have received several injections. STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed on the prescription label. KEEP THIS PRODUCT, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, contact your doctor to establish a new dosing schedule.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicines that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING of your dose or condition may be needed if you are using quaternary ammonium salts (eg, benzalkonium chloride). TELL YOUR DOCTOR if you have received another injectable medicine in the same joint that you will be receiving this medicine. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a knee joint infection, or if you have an infection or skin disease around the injection site. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about taking this medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include back pain; mild bruising, redness, or pain at the injection site; mild stiffness, swelling, warmth, or pain in or around the injected knee; muscle or joint pain; or temporary achy feeling. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience severe or persistent headache or dizziness, or severe, persistent, or painful swelling of the injected joint. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist to explain local regulations for selecting an appropriate container and properly disposing of the container when it is full.
