What is Lidoderm?
Lidoderm is a prescription drug that causes numbness or loss of feeling in an area of your body to relieve pain. It is given before and during surgery, during childbirth or dental work. It can also treat emergency heart rhythm problems.
How do I take Lidoderm?
Use this medicine as directed by your doctor. Apply just enough to cover the affected area. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. Gently rub Lidoderm into the skin until it disappears.
Before taking Lidoderm, tell your doctor if:
- Some medical conditions may interact with this medicine.
- If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast feeding.
- If you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine; herbal preparation or dietary supplement.
- If you have allergies to medicines, foods or other substances.
- If you have an open wound or damaged, broken or irritated skin.
What are the possible side effects of taking Lidoderm?
All medicines have possible side effects but most people have none or minor side effects. Some Lidoderm side effects are temporary burning or stinging at the application site which usually disappears in a few days. Some severe allergic reactions include hives, rash, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling in the mouth, irritation, redness, blistering, or severe or persistent burning at the application site.
What if I forget to take a dose of Lidoderm?
If you happen to miss a dose of this medicine, use it as soon as possible. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Consult your healthcare provider if you have questions about applying Lidoderm.
How do I store Lidoderm?
Store Lidoderm at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Ensure to close cap tightly after use. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in a bathroom and keep this medicine out of the reach of children as well as pets.
What happens if I overdose on Lidoderm?
Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org), or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.
