Luvox Cr Information:
What is Luvox CR?
Luvox CR is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It is most commonly prescribed to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder. It works by affecting the absorption of the brain chemical serotonin, which helps decrease unwanted thoughts and minimizes the urge to perform repetitive tasks. Luvox CR is also sometimes prescribed to treat depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
How do I take Luvox CR?
Take Luvox CR only as often as your doctor has instructed you to, usually once a day before bed. You may take this medication with or without food, but be sure to swallow the capsule whole in order to avoid activating the extended-release drug too quickly. Do not stop taking Luvox CR without first talking to your doctor. You may need to gradually reduce your dose in order to avoid adverse effects.
Before taking Luvox CR, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to this or any other medications
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements, especially drugs that increase serotonin
- You have kidney or liver disease
- You have heart disease or risk factors for getting heart disease (e.g. you have high blood pressure or are overweight)
- You have a personal or family history of narrow-angle glaucoma
- You have a blood clotting disorder or intestinal bleeding
- You have bipolar disorder or you have a history of suicidal thoughts
- You have epilepsy or another seizure disorder
- You have low levels of sodium in your blood
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Luvox CR?
Side effects of Luvox CR may include dizziness, drowsiness, mild nausea, loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, and excessive sweating. These side effects usually go away on their own, but let your doctor know if you have any side effects that persist or interfere with your daily activities. Contact your doctor right away if you experience a fast heart rate, decreased libido, tremors, muscle pain, or easy bruising or bleeding, as these may be signs of a more serious problem. Get medical attention immediately if you experience unusual vision changes, seizures, very dark stools or vomit, severe dizziness, hallucinations, or muscle tics.
What if I forget to take a dose of Luvox CR?
Take the missed dose of Luvox CR as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and get back to your normal routine. Do not take more of this medication than you normally would for a single dose.
How do I store Luvox CR?
Store Luvox CR in a tightly sealed container at room temperature. Do not leave it anywhere that children or pets could easily access it. Do not store it in the bathroom, since bright light and moisture may cause the medication to break down more quickly. If your medication has expired or you no longer need it, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of it.
What happens if I overdose on Luvox CR?
Overdosing on Luvox CR can be very dangerous and may lead to difficulty breathing, an irregular heartbeat, or seizures. Call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) right away if you or someone in your household has overdosed. If the person who overdosed has lost consciousness or is having trouble breathing, call 911.
Warnings
If you are taking Luvox CR, do not take NSAID medications (including over-the-counter NSAIDs like ibuprofen), as these drugs can interact with Luvox CR and cause you to bleed or bruise more easily. You should also avoid alcoholic beverages, since alcohol can exacerbate certain side effects. Be careful driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how Luvox CR affects you, since this medication causes dizziness and drowsiness in some people.
