Pantoprazole Information:

This medicine is a proton pump inhibitor. This medicine is used for short-term treatment (7 to 10 days) of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) who have a history of irritation of the esophagus. It may be used for conditions that cause your body to make too much stomach acid (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Follow the directions for taking this medicine provided by your doctor. An additional patient information leaflet may be available with this medicine. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this information. This medicine is usually given as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. If you will be using this medicine at home, a health care provider will teach you how to use it. Be sure you understand how to use this medicine. Follow the procedures you are taught when you use a dose. Contact your health care provider if you have any questions. Do not use this medicine if it contains particles, is cloudy or discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged. This medicine should only be used for a short time (7 to 10 days) until you are able to take medicine by mouth. Discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor. This medicine is usually handled and stored by a health care provider. If you are using this medicine at home, STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed by your pharmacist or health care provider. KEEP THIS MEDICINE, as well as syringes and needles, out of reach of children and pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE of this medicine, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are taking atazanavir, dasatinib, nelfinavir, or rilpivirine. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking ampicillin, anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), bosutinib, clopidogrel, digoxin, diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide), erlotinib, indinavir, iron, itraconazole, ketoconazole, methotrexate, mycophenolate, nilotinib, posaconazole, saquinavir, or sorafenib. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including liver problems; stomach or bowel cancer; osteoporosis (weak bones), a family history of osteoporosis, or other risk factors of osteoporosis (eg, smoking, poor nutrition); low blood potassium, magnesium, or zinc levels; allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include gas, headache, joint pain, mild diarrhea or stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience bloody or watery stools; bone pain; chest pain; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or sore throat; pain, redness, swelling, tenderness, or warmth at the injection site; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; severe or persistent diarrhea or stomach pain; severe or persistent nausea or vomiting; stomach cramps; symptoms of liver problems (eg, dark urine, loss of appetite, nausea, pale stools, unusual tiredness, yellowing of the skin or eyes); unexplained weight loss; unusual bruising or bleeding; or vision changes. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, throat, or tongue; or unusual hoarseness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist to explain local regulations for selecting an appropriate container and properly disposing of the container when it is full.
