Patanol Information:
What is Patanol?
Patanol is an ophthalmic antihistamine containing ophthalmic olopatadine in solution form that is used to treat pink eye caused by allergies. Antihistamines block the production of naturally occurring histamines in the body that cause itching and watery eyes. Because the Patanol price can be quite high, especially if multiple droppers are needed, take advantage of the Patanol discount coupon at HelpRx and use it if you don’t have a Patanol copay card to lower the price of this medication at purchase.
How do I take Patanol?
Patanol is administered using an eyedropper applicator. Follow the instructions that accompany the medication. Prior to use, thoroughly wash and dry your hands. Tilt your head back and use your index finger to pull back the lower eyelid and create a pocket. While looking up, gently squeeze a single drop of the solution into the pocket that was formed, and then remove your finger. Tilt your head down, and close your eyes for two to three minutes, trying not to blink or squeeze your eyes. Place a finger on the tear duct and apply soft pressure to the area, then wipe away excess moisture. If you are administering multiple drops, wait five minutes between each application. Wash hands thoroughly after each application.
Before taking Patanol, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to olopatadine hydrochloride, benzalkonium chloride, or any of the ingredients in the Patanol solution
- You are allergic to any medications
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medication, vitamins, or supplements
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or nursing a child
- You have, or are being treated for, and eye infection
- You wear contact lenses
What are the possible side effects of taking Patanol?
Some patients have reported side effects after taking Patanol. Less severe symptoms include dry eyes, blurred vision, headaches, mild eye irritation, changes in taste perception, or a sore throat. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your doctor for help.
Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention have also been reported. These include signs of an allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, mouth, or difficulty breathing or swallowing), or severe stinging, burning, or swelling of the eyes.
What if I forget to take a dose of Patanol?
If a scheduled application of Patanol is missed, instill the drops when you remember and are able unless it is almost time for the next dose. In this instance, forego the missed application and resume the normal schedule. Do not increase the number of drops to compensate for a missed instillation.
How do I store Patanol?
Keep Patanol tightly sealed in its original container, away from the extremes of temperature and humidity, and out of the reach of children. Do not allow the solution to freeze. Dispose of unused or expired quantities in accordance with the directives of a pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Patanol?
If too much Patanol was dispensed, or if the medication was accidentally ingested, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 for help. If the individual is showing signs of a severe allergic reaction or other unusual symptoms, contact Emergency Services at 911.
Warnings
Do not wear contacts while instilling the Patanol solution; wait at least ten minutes before replacing your contacts. Because this medication can blur vision, do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or use power tools until these effects have cleared. Do not allow the dropper to touch any surface. Do not use the medication if it has clouded or changed color.
