Ventolin Information:
What is Ventolin?
Use a Ventolin discount coupon from HelpRx to buy your Ventolin product in your local pharmacy at a lower price. Ventolin is an albuterol asthma medication that helps relieve bronchospasm and its symptoms. Ventolin acts within minutes, and symptom relief should last 4 to 6 hours. Albuterol treats bronchospasm by quickly opening airways within your lungs to ease breathing during an asthma attack. Your doctor may prescribe Ventolin to help relieve your sudden asthma symptoms or to help exercise-induced bronchospasm. Ventolin also makes a capsule called Rotacaps.
How do I take Ventolin?
Use Ventolin as directed by your doctor. Your Ventolin inhaler must be primed before you use it for the first time, when it has not been used for more than 14 days in a row, or if it has been dropped. Do not prime your Ventolin inhaler every day. Remove your Ventolin inhaler from its packaging. Throw away the pouch and the drying packet that comes inside the pouch. Remove the protective cap from the mouthpiece. Shake the inhaler well, and spray it into the air away from your face. Shake and spray the inhaler like this 3 more times to finish priming it. After you prime the actuator for the first time, the dose counter in the window on the back of the actuator should show the number 200 or 60, depending on which size inhaler you have.
Before taking Ventolin, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to albuterol sulfate.
- You have any other medical conditions.
- You are allergic to any other ingredients in Ventolin.
What are the possible side effects of taking Ventolin?
Some side effects of taking Ventolin are worsening trouble breathing, coughing, and wheezing (paradoxical bronchospasm). If this happens, stop using Ventolin and call your healthcare provider or get emergency help right away. This is more likely to happen with your first use of a new canister of medicine. Other side effects include heart problems, faster heart rate and higher blood pressure. Some other conditions from side effects include rash, itchy skin, swelling beneath your skin or throat, low potassium in blood, chest pain, fast heart rate, headache, sore throat, runny nose and in rare cases of excessive use, death.
What if I forget to take a dose of Ventolin?
Speak to your doctor about missing a dose. Often times you’ll continue the cycle of dosing when taking Ventolin and just wait till your next dose unless you are feeling shortness of breath. Speak to your doctor about missed doses to verify how you take Ventolin when needed or in emergency situations.
How do I store Ventolin?
Store this medication at room temperature away from moisture and heat with the mouthpiece on. Extreme heat can cause the medicine canister to burst. Do not store it in your car on hot days. Do not throw an empty canister into an open flame.
What happens if I overdose on Ventolin?
Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org), or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include seizures, chest pain, headache, dry mouth, accelerated heart rate, tremors, and nausea.
Warnings
Inhaled albuterol sulfate can produce paradoxical bronchospasm, or a worsening of symptoms, which may be life threatening. If paradoxical bronchospasm occurs, Ventolin should be discontinued immediately and alternative therapy instituted. Paradoxical bronchospasm frequently occurs with the first use of a new canister. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant, nursing or attempting to become pregnant before using Ventolin.
