Acetaminophen codeine is a combination of two painkiller drugs that is used to treat mild to moderate pain resulting from a variety of conditions: acetaminophen (Tylenol) and codeine. What are the possible side effects of taking acetaminophen/codeine?
Acetaminophen codeine may cause side effects. Common side effects from taking acetaminophen with codeine include drowsiness, upset stomach, nausea, constipation, dry mouth, and blurred vision. Drink lots of water to avoid constipation. Rare side effects include shallow breathing, feeling faint, seizures, stomach pain, slowed heart rate, difficulty urinating, dark urine, changes in mood or confusion. Contact your doctor right away if you experience any serious side effects.
What if I forget to take a dose of acetaminophen/codeine?

If the victim has slowed or stopped breathing or has lost consciousness, contact 911 emergency services.

Acetaminophen/codeine can make you dizzy and drowsy. Do not drive or operate machinery while using this medication. Do not drink alcohol while taking acetaminophen with codeine. It could result in dangerous side effects. Limit your intake of this medication. 4000mg of acetaminophen per day could cause serious liver damage. In case of head injury or other intracranial lesions, the possible respiratory effects of codeine are increased, in addition to the elevation of cerebrospinal fluid and/or pressure. Codeine can be habit forming and can lead to addiction if overused. As a result, extended use of this product is discouraged. Prescribers should use the lowest effective dose for the shortest period of time. Stopping this medication suddenly could lead to withdrawal symptoms.
