Azurette Information:
What is Azurette?
Azurette is an oral contraceptive used to prevent pregnancy. The combination of the estrogen, ethinyl estradiol, and the progestin, desogestrel, is used to halt ovulation. These substances also alter the cervical mucus and the uterine lining, preventing an egg from attaching to the uterine wall. Azurette may also be prescribed to women who need help controlling acne or to those who have premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
How do I take Azurette?
Azurette is dispensed in 28-tablet packets, and one pill is taken per day. The first twenty-one pills are active; the remaining seven are not, functioning as reminder pills. Take the first pill on the first day of your menstrual cycle or on the Sunday immediately following. Continue taking each of the tablets in the cycle on a daily basis, including the reminder pills, in their proper order before beginning a new cycle. If this is the first time taking an oral contraceptive, use an alternative means of birth control for the first seven days. Taking a pill at the same time every day makes it easier to remember. Taking them with food or milk can prevent nausea. Notify your doctor before you stop taking Azurette.
