For anyone with allergies to medicine, food, or insect stings, an EpiPen can be a life-saving device. In the event of a severe allergic reaction, a person can use their EpiPen to inject a dose of the hormone epinephrine, which is the only recommended first line of treatment for anaphylaxis. Unfortunately, not everyone who should carry an EpiPen remembers to keep this emergency medication on them all the time. Now, however, there’s a new smart case designed to alert users when they’ve forgotten their EpiPen and to notify family or friends when an EpiPen has been removed from the case.
Veta, the new EpiPen smart case from Aterica Digital Health, uses Bluetooth to connect to mobile devices (iOS or Android) and can send alerts to EpiPen users and family members when certain actions are taken. Parents, for example, can receive a notification on their smartphone when their child has opened the Veta case, alerting them to a possible asthma attack. Users can also receive a reminder on their phone when they leave their Veta case behind, and if they get too far from their case, a notification will be sent to them and their private support circle.
Veta also has a FindMe feature that can be used to locate and track a missing case. The Veta app reports the last known location of the case, and users can trigger a flashing light and audio ping to help them locate the case when they know it’s nearby.
Other valuable features include temperature sensors, which can alert the user if the temperature of the case ever becomes too low or high to safely store the EpiPen, and an expiry reminder, which will alert users when the expiration date of a registered EpiPen is approaching.

The Value of an EpiPen Smart Case
The Veta smart case should bring greater peace of mind to allergy sufferers and parents of children with allergies. It’s important for anyone with potentially severe allergies to carry at least one EpiPen (and preferably two) with them at all times, as anaphylaxis can be unpredictable. An allergen that only caused a mild reaction on a previous occasion could cause a much more severe reaction on the next encounter, and an epinephrine injection is the only way to provide immediate relief in the face of a potentially life-threatening allergy attack.
With its separation alert system, Veta makes it easier for people with allergies to remember their EpiPen, and with the EpiPen removal alert, parents, family friends, teachers, and coaches can be immediately notified when someone in their support network has to use an EpiPen.
The Veta case is new to the market, and hopefully the manufacturer will continue to develop new features to make it easier than ever for users to keep track of their EpiPens. For a discount on your next EpiPen prescription, visit our EpiPen Drug Discount Page.
