Frova Information:

What is Frova?

Frova (frovatriptan) is a selective serotonin receptor agonist, which constricts the blood vessels around the brain, stopping the release of neurochemicals related to migraine symptoms such as nausea, pain, and sensitivity to light and sound. It can only be used to treat a migraine in progress, and will not prevent a headache.

How do I take Frova?

Always take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take Frova only once you recognize migraine symptoms or after the headache has begun.

The dose is normally 1 pill with a full glass of water. If you only experience some but not complete relief, or if you experience relief but the pain comes back, you may take 1 pill with a full glass of water at least 2 hours after your initial dose. Taking a third pill has not been proven effective, and you should never have more than 3 pills in 24 hours.

Before taking Frova, tell your doctor if:

• You are taking any other migraine medication.
• You have headaches that are different from your migraines, or you have headaches with loss of movement in part of your body.
• You have or have a history of cardiovascular disease or disorder, including heart attack or stroke, heart rhythm problems, high blood pressure, angina, or circulation problems.
• You have or have a history of ischemic bowel disease.
• You have or have a history of kidney or liver disease.
• You have had or plan to have a hysterectomy.
• You are taking antidepressant medications.
• You are pregnant or breastfeeding or plan to become pregnant or to breastfeed.
• You are taking or have taken any non-selective beta blockers.

What are the possible side effects of taking Frova?

Common side effects from taking Frova include: feeling tired or drowsy, feeling either too cold or too warm, mild dizziness, mild (non-migraine) headache, dry mouth, warmth or redness, tingling under the skin, joint or bone pain, stomach upset, heavy feeling or pressure in a part of the body.

Some of Frova's side effects are severe and require immediate medical attention. These include: allergic reaction; tingling or numbness with a pale or blue discoloration in your fingers or toes; sudden and severe headache with confusion; trouble with balance, speech, or vision; sudden muscle weakness, especially on only one side of the body; pain or tight feeling in the throat, jaw, or neck; chest pain, especially that spreads to the shoulder, with feeling generally ill, a heavy feeling, nausea and sweating; sudden and severe stomach pain with diarrhea containing blood.

You should also seek emergency medical assistance if you are taking Frova with an antidepressant and experience any of the following: agitation, hallucinations, loss of coordination, fainting, overactive reflexes, fever, elevated heart rate, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea.

What if I forget to take a dose of Frova?

Never take extra medication to make up for doses or doses that do not seem effective. Overuse of Frova can make your migraines worse. This medication is taken on an as-needed basis, so you cannot miss your dose.

How do I store Frova?

Keep Frova securely closed and out of reach from children or pets. Be sure to store it at room temperature away from excess heat or moisture (e.g., the bathroom).

What happens if I overdose on Frova?

Immediately seek emergency medical assistance.
