What is Horizant?

The Horizant drug is the brand name for the extended release version of the drug gabapentin, an anticonvulsant of the gamma aminobutyric acid class; it is prescribed to treat restless leg syndrome (RLS), and nerve pain resulting from post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). Less severe symptoms include vision problems, headache, tremors, changes in appetite, pain or swelling in the joints, back, or limbs, weight loss or gain, anxiety, dizziness, ear pain, confusion, weakness, malaise, memory loss, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or flu-like symptoms. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider.

Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include seizures or symptoms of an allergic reaction (rash, hives, blistering skin, itching, swelling of the mouth, lips, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing or swallowing).

What if I forget to take a dose of Horizant?

If you forget to take the scheduled dose of your Horizant, take it as soon as you remember and are able, then resume the normal regimen. However, if the time is near for your next scheduled dose, forego the one missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not take multiple doses or change dosing intervals to make up for one that was missed.

How do I store Horizant?

Store Horizant in its original container, out of the reach of children and away from the extremes of temperature and humidity. Dispose of unused or expired quantities according to the directions of a pharmacist.

What happens if I overdose on Horizant?

If an overdose of Horizant is suspected, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911. Signs of an overdose include slurred speech, diarrhea, double vision, and drowsiness.
