Lustra Information:
What is Lustra?
Lustra is a melanin synthesis inhibitor. It works by decreasing the amount of melanin (the pigment that accounts for skin color) wherever it is applied, leading to skin lightening. It may be used to lighten age spots, sun damaged skin, freckles, or skin that has been darkened by hormonal changes.
How do I use Lustra?
Apply Lustra only as often as your doctor has instructed, usually twice a day (once in the morning and once before bed). Wash your hands before and after each application (unless you are treating the skin on your hands), and apply this topical medication only to the skin areas you intend to lighten. If you have not noticed improvement after two months of regular use, talk to your doctor.
Before using Lustra, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to peroxide, hydroquinone, or sulfites, or you have any other allergies
- You are taking any other medications, especially antibiotics
- You have kidney or liver disease
- You have asthma
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning a pregnancy
What are the possible side effects of using Lustra?
As with many other topical drugs, Lustra may cause mild itching, redness, or stinging at the application site. Stop using this medication and contact your doctor right away if your skin irritation becomes severe, or if you have any of these rare but serious side effects: blue or black skin discoloration, blisters, or skin that is cracking, oozing, or bleeding.
What if I forget to use a dose of Lustra?
Apply the forgotten dose once you remember, unless it’s almost time for your next dose. In this case, resume your normal schedule. Don’t apply more of the medicated cream than you normally would for a single dose.
How do I store Lustra?
Keep the Lustra container tightly sealed in between doses, and store it at room temperature. Avoid exposing this medication to high heat or moisture, and keep it away from children and pets. If you have leftover medicine that has expired or that you no longer need, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of it.
What happens if I overdose on Lustra?
You are not likely to overdose on Lustra when applying it to your skin, but the medicine may be harmful if swallowed. If you or a child in your home has ingested some of this medication, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 to find out what to do.
Warnings
Never apply your Lustra medicine to broken, sunburned, or otherwise irritated skin. Keep this medicated cream away from your lips, mouth, and nostrils, as it can cause numbness when applied to these areas. Avoid skin products that might cause irritation, such as fragrant shampoos or hair waxes. Use a gentle moisturizing lotion if you find that Lustra makes your skin more sensitive to cold and wind.
