Synera Information:
Synera patches contain lidocaine and tetracaine, both of which are numbing agents. Your doctor may have you use one of these patches to deliver a local anesthetic before certain medical procedures, such as an IV injection or blood draw.
Peel a Synera patch away from the hard plastic backing of its package. Hold the patch by its edges; avoid touching the center area, or you may accidentally numb your fingers. Place the sticky side of the patch on your skin where your doctor has instructed you to wear it. Wash your hands once you’re done with the application.
Before using Synera, tell your doctor if:
· You are allergic to any of the ingredients in the patch or any other local anesthetics
· You are taking any other medications, vitamins, or supplements
· You have any liver problems
· You have been sick recently
· You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
Synera may cause mild swelling, redness, or pale skin at the application site. These side effects usually aren’t cause for concern, but let your doctor know if you have any skin irritation that persists or becomes bothersome. Severe side effects are very unlikely. However, you should get emergency medical attention if you experience severe burning, swelling, redness, or irritation at the application site, or if you have signs of a severe allergic reaction.
Because this medication is used as needed, you shouldn’t have to worry about missing a dose.
Your healthcare provider will likely apply Synera at a hospital or clinic, so you probably won’t need to store the medication yourself. If you do need to keep Synera at home, follow your doctor or pharmacist’s instructions for safe storage. Whenever you take a patch off, fold it in half with the sticky sides together and discard it out of reach of children and pets.
You are unlikely to overdose on Synera if your doctor is supervising the application. However, if you do absorb too much of this medicine, you may experience blurred vision, tinnitus, mental or mood changes, dizziness, tremors, an irregular heart rate, severe drowsiness, vomiting, or seizures. Get emergency medical attention in the event of an overdose.
Warnings
Only apply Synera to healthy, unbroken skin. Synera patches may be harmful if swallowed. Don’t leave a medicated patch on for longer than your doctor has told you to. In rare cases, this medication can cause dizziness or drowsiness. Don’t drive or perform any other potentially unsafe activities until you know how Synera affects you.
