Zipsor Information:
What is Zipsor?
Zipsor is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by stopping the body from producing substances that cause pain and inflammation, and is most frequently prescribed to treat rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Use Zipsor only to treat the condition for which it was prescribed.
How do I take Zipsor?
Zipsor is a liquid filled capsule that is taken orally four times a day, with water and on an empty stomach. However, your physician may adjust the dosing regimen depending on the condition for which you are being treated. Do not bite or chew the capsule.
Before taking Zipsor, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to diclofenac, any of the ingredients in the Zipsor drug, or any medications
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You are taking acetaminophen, aspirin, or other NSAIDS
- You are taking ACE inhibitors, cyclosporine, or digoxin
- You are taking insulin, diuretics, other diabetes medications, lithium, or medications to control seizures
- You are taking metholtrexate, voriconazole, or rifampin
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or nursing a child
- You have, or have had, ulcers, intestinal bleeding, or other problems of the gastrointestinal system
- You have asthma, nasal polyps, or a frequently stuffed or runny nose
- You have, or have had, heart failure, heart, liver, or kidney disease, porphyria, or swelling of the extremities
What are the possible side effects of taking Zipsor?
Some patients have reported side effects after taking the Zipsor drug. Less severe side effects include constipation, gas, bloating, diarrhea, tinnitus, dizziness, or headache. However, if any of these symptoms persist or worsen, contact your physician.
Severe side effects from taking Zipsor that require immediate medical attention include excessive fatigue, signs of an allergic reaction (swelling of the lips, mouth, throat, tongue, or face; hives, rash, or itching; difficulty breathing or swallowing); back pain, blisters, painful urination, changes in urine color or blood in the urine; tachycardia, appetite loss, flu-like symptoms, fever, nausea, symptoms of jaundice, pale skin, or unexplained weight gain.
What if I forget to take a dose of Zipsor?
If you forget to take your scheduled dose of Zipsor, do so as soon as you remember and are able. However, if the time is near for your next capsule, skip the one missed, and resume your normal dosing routine. Do not take multiple capsules to make up for the missed dose.
How do I store Zipsor?
Keep Zipsor in its original container and out of the reach of children. Do not expose the medication to the extremes of temperature and humidity, and do not allow the capsules to freeze. Dispose of any unused or expired doses according to the instructions of your pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Zipsor?
If a Zipsor drug overdose is suspected, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lapsed into unconsciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911. Some symptoms of an overdose include bloody or tarry stools, drowsiness, nausea or vomiting, or slow, shallow, or irregular breathing.
Warnings
Zipsor may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. Smoking may exacerbate any side effects. Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while taking this medication. This medication may cause intestinal bleeding, ulcers, or holes in the intestine or stomach. Restrict the use of alcohol while taking Zipsor.
