Balziva Information:
Balziva is a tablet with the combined active ingredients estradiol and norethindrone. The two hormones provide a mixture of birth control effects that work together to drastically decrease pregnancy rate in users. The hormones primarily inhibit ovulation, which is necessary to begin the initial stages of pregnancy. In addition, the medication alters the cervical mucus and the endometrium so that sperm has a difficult time reaching the uterus and, if they manage to arrive, become unable to implant themselves.
How do I take Balziva?
Take your very first pill on the first day of your period. Alternatively, you may take it on the first Sunday after your period begins. Use backup birth control methods when beginning to take this contraceptive. Take one pill daily no more than 24 hours apart. When the pills run out, start a new pack the following day. Be sure to follow all directions given by your doctor and those that are printed on the medication's label.
Before taking Balziva, tell your doctor if:
- You have high blood pressure, cholesterol, or triglycerides
- You have weight problems
- You have a history of depression, fibrocystic breast disease, lumps, nodules, or an abnormal mammogram, or irregular menstrual cycles
- You have an underactive thyroid
- You have gallbladder disease
- You have diabetes
- You have seizures or epilepsy
- You have tuberculosis
- You have any food or drug allergies
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medicines or supplements
What are the possible side effects of taking Balziva?
Use of Balziva is associated with common side effects that include nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness or swelling, freckles or darkening of facial skin, increased hair growth, loss of scalp hair, changes in weight or appetite, problems with contact lenses, vaginal itching or discharge, changes in your menstrual periods, and decreased sex drive. Call your doctor immediately if you experience signs of a stroke, chest pain, sudden cough, wheezing, coughing up blood, swelling or warmth in one or both legs, heart attack symptoms, nausea, sweating, vision changes, a change in the pattern or severity of migraine headaches, swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet, a breast lump, or symptoms of depression.
What if I forget to take a dose of Balziva?
Missing days of oral contraceptives can quickly cause their effects to dwindle. If you miss one active (non-reminder) pill, take two pills on the day that you remember. Then take one pill per day until the rest of the pack is complete. If you miss two active pills in a row in the first or second week, take two pills per day for two days in a row. Then take one pill per day until the remainder of the pack is gone. If you miss any more pills in a row, either throw out the pack and start a new one on the same day if you started on the first day of your period, or take pills normally until Sunday, then throw out your pack and start over if you began on a Sunday. Use back-up birth control for at least 7 days following the missed pills.
How do I store Balziva?
Store Balziva in its container completely sealed. Keep it at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. Exposure to extreme temperatures and moisture may cause the ingredients to lose efficacy.
What happens if I overdose on Balziva?
An overdose of Balziva may have adverse effects on the body. Call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 for emergency medical attention if you suspect an overdose.
Warnings
Taking birth control can increase your risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack. If you have preexisting conditions, especially cardiovascular disease, or if you are overweight, consult with a physician about the safety of birth control. Smoking can increase your risk of blood clot, stroke, or heart attack while taking birth control. You should not take estradiol and norethindrone if you smoke, especially if you are over the age of 35.
