Cipro Hc Information:

What is Cipro HC?

Cipro HC (ciprofloaxacin/hydrocortisone) is an antibiotic used to treat outer ear infections. In addition to its antibiotic properties, it also contains a steroid to help reduce inflammation caused by the infection. This ear drop medication is only available in a 10ml bottle and a 0.2%/0.1% formulation.

How do I use Cipro HC?

Remove ear wax before applying Cipro HC (ask your doctor how to do this safely). Shake your bottle of Cipro HC before each use, and carefully apply the prescribed number of drops to the infected ear while tilting your head so that the ear faces up. Keep your head tilted for at least 30 seconds after applying the drops so that the medication doesn’t leak out of your ear. Continue using this medication for the prescribed length of time, even if your symptoms go away before then. If you do not improve after a week of using Cipro HC, or if you develop new symptoms, contact your doctor.

Before using Cipro HC, tell your doctor if:

You are allergic to this or any other medications
You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements
You have a perforated ear drum
You have any kind of viral infection that is affecting your ear canal
You have been experiencing severe ear pain or hearing problems
You have a fever
You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning to become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of using Cipro HC?

The most commonly reported side effects of Cipro HC are headache and mild itching immediately after applying the ear drops. If you have any ear irritation that lasts a long time or becomes severe, or if you develop a skin rash, stop using Cipro HC and contact your doctor immediately.

What if I forget to use a dose of Cipro HC?

It’s best to use Cipro HC at the same time every day, but if you forget a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and resume your regular dosing schedule.

How do I store Cipro HC?

Keep the Cipro HC bottle tightly sealed and out of reach of children when you’re not using the medication. Store it at room temperature away from bright light and moisture. If you have leftover medication after you finished your prescribed course of treatment, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of it.

What happens if I overdose on Cipro HC?

You’re unlikely to overdose on Cipro HC when applying the drops to your ears, but this medication may be harmful if swallowed. If you or someone in your home has swallowed some of this medicine, call your local Poison Control center at 1-800-222-1222 to find out what to do.

Warnings

Keep Cipro HC out of your eyes, nose, and mouth. If you do get it in any of these areas, rinse with water immediately. Do not let the dropper tip touch your ear or any other surfaces, as it may become contaminated. Don’t use any other ear medications while you are being treated with Cipro HC unless your doctor has given you permission to do so.

Brand Names
