Prezcobix Information:
What is Prezcobix?
Prezcobix is a combination medicine containing darunavir (an antiviral drug) and cobicistat (a medication booster). Cobicistat prevents darunavir from being broken down too quickly, and darunavir stops HIV cells from multiplying. The Prezcobix drug is just one part of a complete HIV treatment plan; it is usually prescribed with other medications.
How do I take Prezcobix?
Take Prezcobix with food on the dosage schedule that your doctor has prescribed. Keep all scheduled medical appointments while you are taking this drug; your doctor will likely need to test your blood, kidney, and liver function on a regular basis.
Before taking Prezcobix, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to darunavir or cobicistat, or you have any other allergies
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements, especially tenofovir
- You have kidney or liver disease
- You have diabetes
- You have a bleeding or blood clotting disorder
- You are breastfeeding or pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Prezcobix?
Prezcobix may cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, rash, or changes in the locations of body fat. Side effects are typically mild and short-lasting, but if you have any side effects that persist or concern you, let your doctor know. Contact your doctor immediately if you have any signs of a new infection, high blood sugar, liver problems, or a severe skin reaction while you are taking this medication.
What if I forget to take a dose of Prezcobix?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless there are fewer than 12 hours left before your next schedule dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the normal time. Do not double your dose in an effort to catch up.
How do I store Prezcobix?
Keep Prezcobix in a tightly sealed container, out of reach of any children or pets in your home. Store it at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Do not store it in the bathroom.
What happens if I overdose on Prezcobix?
If you believe that you or someone in your household has overdosed on this medication, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 right away, or go to the nearest emergency room if the person who overdosed is experiencing severe side effects.
Warnings
If you also take enteric-coated didanosine (brand name: Videx EC), make sure to schedule your dose for at least one hour before or two hours after you take Prezcobix. Keep in mind that Prezcobix is not a cure for HIV and will not prevent the transmission of the virus; talk to your doctor to make sure you are fully educated on how to avoid passing HIV to a sexual partner.
