Remeron Information:
What is Remeron?
Remeron is the brand name for the tetracyclic antidepressant, mirtazapine. Orally administered to treat the symptoms of major depressive disorders, Remeron has a tetra-cyclic chemical structure and is part of the piperazino-azepine group of compounds. The Remeron medication is dispersed as scored film-coated tablets containing 15 or 30 mg or mirtazapine and as unscored film-coated tablets containing 45 mg of mirtazapine. The Remeron drug affects the chemicals in the brain that may have become unbalanced, and it is believed to work by increasing the activity of norepinephrine and serotonin that are released in the brain and elevate mood.
How do I take Remeron?
Fill your prescription for Remeron pills in your local pharmacy using our free printable coupons or Remeron discount card. Remeron should be taken only as directed by your doctor. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it longer than the time ordered by your doctor. The dosage you take and how often you take it will vary depending on the strength of the dosage and other individual factors assessed by your healthcare provider. Take the regular tablet form of Remeron with water. To take the Remeron orally disintegrating tablets, you should keep the tablet in its blister until you are ready to take it. It is important that you peel back the foil from the blister rather than pushing the tablet through the foil so as not to damage the tablet. Using dry hands, place the tablet into your mouth and allow it to dissolve in your mouth without chewing. Do not swallow the tablet whole. The recommended starting dose for Remeron orally disintegrating tablets is 15 mg per day, administered in one single dose.
Before taking Remeron, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to mirtazapine.
- You are also taking tryptophan.
- You have liver or kidney disease.
- You have bipolar disorder (manic depression)
- You have seizures or epilepsy.
- You have low blood pressure or dizzy spells.
- You have high cholesterol or triglycerides.
- You have heart disease, including angina (chest pain).
- You have a history of heart attack or stroke.
- You have a history of drug abuse.
- You have suicidal thoughts.
- You are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant.
- You are nursing or intend to nurse while taking remeron.
- You become pregnant while taking remeron.
What are the possible side effects of taking Remeron?
Remeron affects individuals differently. Your doctor can explain what Remeron is and what potential Remeron side effects you may experience.
Serious side effects that should be immediately reported to your doctor include agitation, hallucinations, fever, fast heart rate, overactive reflexes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, stiff muscles, high fever, sweating, confusion, fast or uneven heartbeats, tremors, fever, chills, body aches and other flu-like symptoms, white patches or sores that appear inside your mouth or on your lips, weakness, unsteadiness, concentration or memory problems, or the feeling as though you are going to pass out.
Less serious Remeron side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, increased appetite, and weight gain.
What if I forget to take a dose of Remeron?
If you miss a dose of Remeron, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.
How do I store Remeron?
Remeron pills or tablets should be stored at room temperature around 77 degrees F but will remain safe for brief periods of exposure to between 59 to 86 degrees F. You should protect Remeron from light and from moisture. Do not store your Remeron in your bathroom and ensure that it remains out of the reach of children and pets. Do not flush any unused Remeron down the toilet or pour them down the drain unless instructed to do so by your pharmacist or medical professional. Consult your pharmacist to discuss proper methods to discard any unused or expired medication.
What happens if I overdose on Remeron?
An overdose of Remeron may result in confusion, memory problems, drowsiness, or fast heart rate. If you suspect a Remeron overdose, seek emergency medical assistance immediately.
Warnings
The Remeron drug may impair your thinking or reactions. While taking Remeron, you should not operate a car or other machinery or engage in dangerous activities until you are certain how the Remeron medication will affect you. Do not drink alcohol while taking Remeron.
Cold or allergy medication, sedatives, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and seizure or anxiety medicines can add to the sleepiness often caused by Remeron and should be discussed with your doctor before taking. Also ensure that your doctor is aware of any over-the-counter medications or natural remedies you may be taking before taking Remeron.
You should ensure that your doctor is made aware of any changes, such as mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or a feeling of impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive feelings, or a feeling of deeper depression or thoughts of suicide or harm to yourself or others.
