Acuvail Information:
What is Acuvail?
Acuvail is a brand of eye drops that contains ketorolac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that works by blocking substances that cause inflammation and the resulting pain.
How do I take Acuvail?
Patients should begin using Acuvail one day prior to surgery and continue to use it for two weeks after surgery. The usual dose is one vial of drops to the affected eye twice daily, or once every 12 hours. Contact lenses should be removed before instilling Acuvail drops. To instill the drops, tilt the head back and pull down the lower eyelid to form a pouch to insert the drops. Squeeze the dose into the pouch while looking up and then close the eye for about one minute while holding the tear duct closed by pressing a finger on the inner corner of the eye.
Before taking Acuvail, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any medications or any of the ingredients in Acuvail drops.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You are using any other prescription or nonprescription drugs. Your doctor may modify your dosing schedule.
What are the possible side effects of taking Acuvail?
Possible side effects from using Acuvail include blurred vision, mild burning, itching or irritation right after applying drops, swollen eyelids and headache. If any of these side effects are severe or don’t go away, tell your doctor. Serious side effects that you should report immediately include eye pain, watery eyes, crusting or drainage, sensitivity to light, white patches on the eye or vision changes.
What if I forget to take a dose of Acuvail?
If you forget to apply a dose of Acuvail, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your normal routine. Do not apply a double dose to compensate for a missed one.
How do I store Acuvail?
Acuvail drops should be stored in their pouches to protect them from light. Keep the drops at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
What happens if I overdose on Acuvail?
Using Acuvail is not likely to result in overdose. If you are experiencing serious side effects and you think you are using too much, tell your doctor. If someone has accidentally swallowed Acuvail drops, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Use of Acuvail drops may slow the healing process. These drops are for ophthalmic use only. Remove contact lenses before using.
