Bromfenac Information:
What is bromfenac?
As a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), bromfenac helps reduce eye swelling in order to relieve pain and discomfort. It is most commonly prescribed to patients who have undergone cataract extraction.
How do I take bromfenac?
If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying bromfenac eye drops. Always wash your hands before using this ophthalmic medication. When you are ready to apply the drops, tilt your head back and pull your lower eyelid down slightly. Look up and away from the tip of the eye dropper, and gently squeeze a drop into your eye. Keep your eye closed with a finger pressed to the inside corner for about two minutes (this will keep the medicine from leaking out). If your doctor has instructed you to apply more than one drop to each eye, wait at least five minutes before applying another drop.
Before taking bromfenac, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to this or any other medications
- You have asthma
- You have dry eye syndrome
- You have had or will be having more than one eye surgery in a short period of time
- You have diabetes
- You have rheumatoid arthritis
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking bromfenac?
Bromfenac is not likely to cause serious side effects, but some people have reported mild eye irritation, seeing “floaters” in their vision, increased light sensitivity, or headaches. If you have any side effects that bother you or last a long time, let your doctor know. Stop using bromfenac and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the following rare but serious side effects: worsening eye pain or swelling, increased tears or eye discharge, eye redness or bleeding, or unusual vision changes.
What if I forget to take a dose of bromfenac?
Apply the forgotten dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, simply skip the missed one. Do not apply more drops than usual in an effort to catch up.
How do I store bromfenac?
Store bromfenac at room temperature, away from bright light and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. If you notice discoloration or particles floating in the solution, throw this medication out. Ask your pharmacist if you are not sure how to dispose of bromfenac safely.
What happens if I overdose on bromfenac?
It is unlikely that you will overdose on bromfenac when applying it as prescribed, but if you do think you have applied too many eye drops, or if you have swallowed some of the solution, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Do not let the tip of your eye dropper touch your eye or any surfaces, as this can cause contamination. Do not apply any other eye drops while using this medication, unless your doctor has given you permission to do so. If you experience blurred vision after applying bromfenac, do not drive or perform other tasks that require clear vision until you’re sure you can do so safely.
