Cefpodoxime Information:
Cefpodoxime is a generic cephalosporin antibiotic that comes in tablet and suspension form and it is used to treat certain bacterial infections such as bronchitis, cystitis, pneumonia, and gonorrhea. It is also used to treat urinary tract infections and skin, ear, sinus, and throat infections, and infections of the tonsils. Cefpodoxime stops infections by killing the bacteria that causes the infections.
How do I use Cefpodoxime?
Cefpodoxime comes in tablet form and also as a suspension (or liquid) to be taken orally. It is usually prescribed to be taken twice daily for 5 to 14 days. Take cefpodoxime exactly as prescribed by your doctor and do not skip doses or stop taking this medication before it is finished. If you stop taking this medication too soon, your infection may return and the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics.
Cefpodoxime is given in a single dose is given to treat gonorrhea.
Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after using cefpodoxime for several days.
Before using Cefpodoxime , tell your doctor if:

you are allergic to cefpodoxime

you are allergic to any other antibiotics

you are allergic to any other medications
-
you are taking any of the following: other prescription or nonprescription medications, vitamins, herbal products, or nutritional supplements

you are taking any of the following: antacids, cimetidine, colistimethate, diuretics, famotidine, gentamicin, kanamycin, neomycin, nizatidine, polymixin B, probenecid, ranitidine, streptomycin, tobramycin. and vancomycin
- if you have phenylketonuria (PKU)
-
you have or have ever had gastrointestinal disease or kidney disease
-
you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding
Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms and if they do not go away:

headache, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
-
stomach pain
-
white vaginal discharge or vaginal swelling, redness, irritation, burning, or itching
Contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms:
-
itching, rash, or hives
-
difficulty breathing
-
difficulty swallowing or sore throat
-
a return of fever or chills
-
a return of other signs of infection
-
watery or bloody stools
-
stomach cramps or fever during treatment or for up to two or more months after stopping treatment
Take your missed dose of cefpodoxime as soon as your remember to take it. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue to take the medication as prescribed. Do not take a double dose of cefpodoxime.
Store this medication securely in the container in which it came, at room temperature. Keep away from excess moisture or heat. Keep out of reach of children. Properly dispose of any expired or unnecessary medication.
In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
The following symptoms may occur in the event of overdose of cefpodoxime: stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, or vomiting.
