Metrocream Information:

What is MetroCream?

MetroCream is a nitroimidazole antibiotic. It helps kill the bacteria that causes acne in adults with rosacea, leading to reduced redness and swelling as well as fewer pimples overall. It is only available in the form of a topical cream.

How do I take MetroCream?

Only use MetroCream as often as your doctor has told you to, usually one or two times a day. Before each application, clean and dry the affected skin. Gently rub a thin layer of the cream over your skin until it vanishes. Wait at least five minutes before applying any cosmetic products to the area where you used MetroCream.

Before taking MetroCream, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to this or any other medications
  • You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements
  • You have a blood disorder
  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of taking MetroCream?

MetroCream sometimes causes mild skin irritation, including burning, stinging, redness, or dryness at the application site. This medication may also cause mild nausea, headaches, or a metallic taste in the mouth. If you have any of these side effects and they last a long time or become bothersome, tell your doctor. If you experience numbness in your hands or feet after using MetroCream, call your doctor immediately.

What if I forget to take a dose of MetroCream?

If you miss a dose of MetroCream, apply the medication as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled application, skip the missed one and resume your normal routine. Do not apply more of the cream than you normally would; this may increase your risk for skin irritation.

How do I store MetroCream?

Store MetroCream at room temperature; do not allow it to freeze. Keep your medication away from bright light and moisture, and store it out of reach of children and pets in your home. If you no longer need this medication but aren’t sure how to dispose of it safely, talk to your pharmacist.

What happens if I overdose on MetroCream?

You are unlikely to overdose on MetroCream when applying it to your skin, but this medication can be harmful when swallowed. If you or someone in your home has swallowed some of this topical cream, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 right away.

Warnings

Avoid getting MetroCream in your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. If you do get some of the medication in any of these areas, rinse with water immediately. Let your doctor know if your skin condition does not improve or gets worse while you are using MetroCream. Do not use this medication on any skin condition that your doctor has not examined.
