Condylox Information:
What is Condylox?
Condylox is the brand name for the keratolytic drug podofilox, in either solution or topical gel form, and is prescribed to treat epidermal warts in the genital area. The gel, but not the solution, may also be used to treat warts between the genitals and the rectum. Neither is used to treat warts inside the urinary tract, rectum, or vagina. This medication works by destroying the skin of the wart.
How do I take Condylox?
Condylox is administered as either a topical solution or as a gel and is usually applied twice daily to the identified tissue for three consecutive days, then not used for four consecutive days. This pattern can be repeated until the wart tissue has disappeared or for four consecutive cycles, whichever occurs first. When using Condylox, follow the prescription instructions exactly, and do not use more than is indicated as it does not increase its effectiveness but may lead to an overdose. Wash your hands thoroughly both before and after applying the medication.
Before taking Condylox, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to podofilox or any of the ingredients in the Condylox drug
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You have, or are being treated for, an STD
What are the possible side effects of taking Condylox?
Some individuals have reported side effects after using Condylox. Less severe symptoms include insomnia, nausea, painful intercourse, vomiting, or an unpleasant skin odor; mild skin tenderness, irritation, drying, peeling, scarring, bleeding, crusting, blistering, or swelling at the application site.
Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (hives, rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, throat or tongue; difficulty breathing or swallowing), severe skin changes or burning, or oozing at the application site.
What if I forget to take a dose of Condylox?
If you forget to apply a scheduled dose of Condylox, do so as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the one missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the amount used in order to make up for having missed an application.
How do I store Condylox?
Keep the Condylox drug tightly sealed in its original container, out of the reach of children and away from the extremes of temperature and humidity. Do not allow the liquid or the gel to freeze. Dispose of any unused or expired amounts according to the instructions of a pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Condylox?
Condylox is intended for external application. If it is accidentally ingested or too much is applied, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911. Signs of having used an excess of Condylox include mouth sores, nausea, vomiting, numb or tingling feet or hands, diarrhea, breathing difficulties, seizures, or confusion.
Warnings
Do not apply Condylox to any skin growths or warts without first receiving a doctor’s approval. Using more of this medication than is prescribed will not improve its effectiveness. Condylox will not protect against the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while using this medication. Do not let this medication come in contact with your eyes, urethra, vagina, or rectum; if this happens, rinse with water. If your condition has not improved after four cycles, discontinue its use and consult your doctor. Do not engage in sexual activity on the days you use Condylox.
