Combivent Information:

What is Combivent?

Combivent is a combination of ipratropium bromide and albuterol sulfate. It works by relaxing the smooth muscle tissue that surrounds air passageways to ease constriction. Combivent is an aerosol bronchodilator that is usually prescribed to those who already use a bronchodilator but continue to suffer from bronchospasms and require a second one.

How do I take Combivent?

Buy this medication in your pharmacy using a Combivent coupon, printable through this website, and get a reduced price. Combivent is distributed in a cartridge for use only in a Combivent inhaler. Before the first dose, the cartridge must be properly inserted into the inhaler, primed by pointing the mouthpiece towards the ground, and clicking the unit until an aerosol cloud is visible. Three more clicks are then needed for complete the priming process. Recommended dosage of this medication is one inhalation four times a day, or as needed. However, no more than six inhalations should be taken in a 24-hour period.

Refer to the information sheet that came with the unit for detailed instructions on how to use this product.

Before taking Combivent, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to albuterol, atropine, or other medications;
  • You have heart disease, arrhythmia, or coronary artery disease;
  • You have high blood pressure;
  • You have diabetes, kidney disease, or liver disease;
  • You have an overactive thyroid;
  • You have glaucoma;
  • You have an enlarged prostate or have trouble urinating;
  • You are taking any other medications;
  • You have allergies to food products such as soy, peanuts, or their byproducts;
  • You are using another inhalant or medication for COPD;
  • You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are nursing; or
  • You anticipate having surgery while on this medication.

What are the possible side effects of taking Combivent?

Other side effects may also appear.

What if I forget to take a dose of Combivent?

If you miss a dose of this medication, take it as soon as you remember. However, if the time for the next scheduled dose is near, skip the missed dose and resume the normal schedule. Do not take a double dose.

How do I store Combivent?

The ideal temperature for storing Combivent is 77°F. However, it can be safely stored between 59° and 86°F without compromising its effectiveness. Do not freeze this product. Keep it safely out of the reach of children and dispose of old or expired quantities according to the recommendations of your pharmacist. Do not spray it toward or into the eyes.

What happens if I overdose on Combivent?

Symptoms of an overdose of Combivent include rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), chest pain, hypokalemia (lowering of potassium levels), and hypertension. If you suspect an overdose, contact emergency services at 911 and/or the poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.

Warnings

If Combivent is not used for more than three days, it will need to be actuated once. If it is not used for more than 21 days, then the unit needs to be actuated in the same manner as for first time use.

Albuterol, an active ingredient in Combivent, may cause life threatening paradoxical bronchospasms, marked by wheezing and difficulty breathing immediately after a dose is administered. If this happens, discontinue its use and contact your physician.

Brand Names

Combivent Respimat is the brand name for the combination of albuterol and ipratropium, and it replaced the Combivent Metered Dose Inhaler. It is not available in a generic formulation. When purchasing this medication, use of our Combivent discount coupon is the most effective way to keep the Combivent price affordable. Another option is to apply for Combivent patient assistance with the manufacturer.
