What is Tudorza Pressair?
Tudorza Pressair is a type of inhaler that contains a medication called aclidinium. Aclidinium is an anticholinergic medication that helps to prevent bronchospasms in patients with COPD by relaxing smooth muscle tissue in the lungs and opening the airways. This medication is long-acting, meaning it works slowly for extended periods of time. Tudorza Pressair is not indicated to stop an attack once it has started. Your doctor should prescribe a rescue medication for this purpose.
How do I take Tudorza Pressair?
Do not remove the Tudorza Pressair inhaler from its packaging until you are ready to use it. When ready to use, remove the cover from the mouthpiece, and press the green button in completely. Then release it and check that the color of the window above the mouthpiece has changed from red to green. Exhale completely and then seal your lips around the mouthpiece. Breathe in quickly and fill your lungs as much as you can. Make sure you hear a click. This means your dose has been released. Hold your breath for as long as you can and then slowly exhale through your nose. The window on your inhaler should be red again. Wipe the mouthpiece with a tissue if you wish and replace the cover. Do not rinse the mouthpiece. The typical dosage prescribed to adults is one inhalation twice daily at 12 hour intervals. Always follow your doctor’s dosing instructions.
Before taking Tudorza Pressair, tell your doctor if:
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have or have ever had glaucoma
- You have an enlarged prostate
- You have a bladder problem or any condition that causes urinary retention
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Tudorza Pressair
- You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medications, vitamins or supplements, especially other medications for COPD or asthma, antihistamines, atropine, medications for IBS or other gastrointestinal conditions, drugs for motion sickness, medications for Parkinson’s disease, and medications for urinary problems
What are the possible side effects of taking Tudorza Pressair?
Possible side effects from using Tudorza Pressair include cough, diarrhea, runny or stuffy nose and headache. If these side effects become severe or don’t go away, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Serious side effects that should be reported immediately include increased eye pressure, eye pain, blurred vision, seeing halos around lights, red eyes, vomiting, urinary retention, painful urination, sudden loss of breath after use, and worsening breathing problems.
What if I forget to take a dose of Tudorza Pressair?
If you miss a dose from your Tudorza Pressair inhaler, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular regimen. Do not take two consecutive doses to compensate for a missed one.
How do I store Tudorza Pressair?
Store the Tudorza Pressair inhaler at a temperature between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Once an inhaler has been removed from its packaging, it must be used within 45 days or thrown out. Protect your inhaler from moisture and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Tudorza Pressair?
There have been no reports of Tudorza Pressair overdose. In studies, inhaled doses 7.5 times larger than the normal dose resulted in no adverse effects. If you think you or someone else has overdosed, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim is not breathing or unresponsive, call 911.
Warnings
Tudorza Pressair should not be used to stop an attack or acute bronchospasm once it has started. Use your rescue inhaler. This medication can cause narrow-angle glaucoma and urinary retention to become worse. Be sure to inform the prescribing physician about either of these problems.
