What is Zocor?
Zocor is a classified as an antihyperlipidemic, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that is prescribed, along with dietary changes and exercise, for the treatment of high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. It works by blocking the enzyme needed to create cholesterol. Other Zocor uses include helping to lower the risk of strokes and heart attacks due to clogged blood vessels, and help prevent other heart problems in certain at-risk patients.
How do I take Zocor?
The Zocor medication is available only by prescription and is taken orally, usually once a day, at the same time every day, preferably in the evening to establish a routine. Do not discontinue Zocor use without consulting your doctor, regardless of how well you feel. You doctor will probably make adjustments to your diet to help facilitate the effects of Zocor, typically to a low cholesterol, low-fat menu. An exercise regimen will also be developed.
