Viekira XR Information:
The drug Viekira XR uses medicines in combination to discourage the multiplication of the hepatitis C virus. It combines dasabuvir, ombitasvir, paritaprevir, and ritonavir to treat genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C in adults. Among patients who benefit from the efficacy of this medicine, those with certain types of cirrhosis may also notice improvement in their conditions.
Take Viekira XR tablets as directed by your doctor. Most regimens continue for 12-24 weeks depending on the severity of the hepatitis C presence. Extended-release tablets are taken once daily with food. The three yellow tablets are taken at one time with a full meal. Do not take more or less than what is prescribed.
Before taking Viekira XR, tell your doctor if:
· You are pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant
· You have allergies to food, medicine, or anything else
· You have liver problems other than hepatitis C
· You have human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
· You have received a liver transplant
Because Viekira XR has such a profound effect on the body, you may notice common side effects such as nausea, itching, skin rash or redness, insomnia, weakness, or tiredness. Get help from a medical professional immediately if you notice liver problems, the symptoms of which include nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, fatigue, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, and jaundice.
Take your tablets as soon as you realize that you have missed a dose. If it is already time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule at meal time. Do not take any extra medicine to make up for doses that you may have missed.
Store Viekira XR in a room that stays at room temperature and keep it away from any moisture and heat that may penetrate the container. Keep tablets in their container until you are ready to take them.
You may begin to notice signs of a serious liver problem. Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.
You must stop using certain types of birth control pills and hormone replacement therapies before beginning a Viekira XR regimen. If you must continue birth control, ask your doctor about non-hormonal birth control options. Do not stop using this or other hepatitis C medications without consulting your physician first. Do not shift your doses or schedule on your own. Your doctor will need to monitor the progress of hepatitis C closely as you continue to take this medicine.
Viekira XR is the brand name of the combination of the generic drugs dasabuvir, ombitasvir, paritaprevir, and ritonavir. It is sold alternatively under a different dosing plan as Viekira Pak.
