Zepatier Information:
What is Zepatier?
Zepatier contains the drugs elbasvir (an HCV NS5A inhibitor) and grazopreviv (a protease inhibitor); it is prescribed, often in conjunction with ribavirin, to treat a particular chronic type of hepatitis C. Elbasvir works by stopping the spread of the hepatitis C virus while grazopreviv helps reduce HCV levels in the body.
How do I take Zepatier?
Zepatier is administered as a tablet that is taken orally once a day with water and without regard to food. The typical length of treatment is 12 to 16 weeks, depending on your medical profile and how well you respond to treatment. Follow your doctor’s instructions while taking this medication, and continue to take it even if you feel well. Seek Zepatier patient assistance from your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about this medication.
Before taking Zepatier, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to elbasvir, grazopreviv, or any of the ingredients in the Zepatier drug
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You have hepatitis in any form, HIV/AIDS, or any other disease
- You are awaiting a liver transplant
What are the possible side effects of taking Zepatier?
Zepatier may have side effects. Mild symptoms include sleep difficulties, headache, or diarrhea; however, if any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your doctor. Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction, fatigue, nausea, weakness, loss of appetite, vomiting, changes in stool color, and yellowing of the skin or eyes.
What if I forget to take a dose of Zepatier?
If you forget your scheduled dose of the Zepatier drug, be sure take it as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and resume the original schedule. Do not increase the number taken or change the regimen to make up for one that was missed.
How do I store Zepatier?
Keep Zepatier tightly sealed in its original packaging, out of the reach of children and away from heat, moisture, and light. Dispose of any expired or unused tablets according to the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Zepatier?
If an overdose of Zepatier is suspected, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.
Warnings
Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while taking Zepatier. This medication is administered only if the diagnosed HCV has a specific genetic marker. It is not known if Zepatier helps prevent the spread of HCV.
